Best Travel Accessory

As a traveling photographer, I carry numerous little accessories but none are more useful than my universal battery charger. I’ve tried several different kinds and in the end I went with the Digipower tc-u450 and here’s why.

Look at all these chumps having to stand by their phones.

Look at all these chumps tethered to their devices.

The good:

  • Accepts multiple types of batteries.
  • No need to be tethered to a wall.
  • USB and AC plug.

The bad:

  • Bulky.
  • Expensive.
  • Customer Service.

The fuglee:

  • If only the plug was placed a little off centered.

For those who have a phone with a removable battery (i.e. Android user. iPhone users are shit out of luck), having a universal charger and, of course, spare batteries, let you charge your device untethered. Even if you don’t have a phone with a removable battery, the Digipower can also charge AA, AAA, and camera batteries, something most cheap charger does not do. There is also plugs for USB and car charger which is included.

The bad side is that compared to some other chargers it is more expensive, bulkier, and customer service is non-existent. I had a blown fuse with my car charger so I had to exchange it since there was no response from customer service via phone or email. One other strange quirk is the plug is place close to the center of the unit so it just ever so slightly block adjacent outlets. Nonetheless, I would still rather bring this than the multiple chargers I carried previously.
