Joby Tripods

They suck. Here’s why:

However, there is one redeeming factor about the Joby tripod: the quick release (QR) plate!

The QR plate is about the same size as the standard ISO shoe. It’s great to pair this up with a cold shoe adapter for mounting small accessories such as microphones, lights, and even a small camera. When mounted on a small mirrorless camera, it easily clears the card/battery door unlike many of the common QR plates.

In Use
In the photo below, I use the railing to attach a Manfrotto Nano Clamp with a cold shoe. Mounted to that cold shoe is a double ball joint with another cold shoe which the Canon EOS M sits on to film the timelapse.

The QR plate does wiggle a little and the locking mechanism only works on the Joby head so make sure whatever you are mounting is in a position where the accessory cannot slide out, particularly when angled up or down.
